Employee Recognition for October 2021

MARCOM is pleased to recognize employee Ricardo Sepulveda-Cruz for the Month of October 2021. Ricardo has been a major asset to MARCOM for many years. He spends a lot of time mentoring and teaching his workforce and he is extremely motivated. Ricardo is one of our “go to guys” if something needs to get done: with little oversight he will accomplish any task given to him. He keeps his workers motivated and his positive attitude and great work ethic influence the people around him. Thank you Ricardo!

The work performed included the Underwater Hull, Freeboard and the Tanks and Mast, totaling well over 100,000 square feet.  It was a successful Docking Availability, and we look forward to completing the topside preservation at the pier.

Love for VB

As a strong proponent of positivity in the community, Marcom was honored to be a supporter of the LOVE for VB Music Festival in June of 2019.  This event helped raise $90,000 for the families of the tragic events that took place at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center on May 31, 2019.

Three Simultaneous Drydock Overhauls

February 2019 brought the drydocking of the USS GEORGE H W BUSH (CVN-77), USS ARLEIGH BURKE (DDG-51) and the USS BULKELEY (DDG-84) to Marcom’s resume.

Three (3) Simultaneous drydock overhauls of significant magnitude was quite the undertaking, but the Marcom Services team took this challenge in stride.

Ex-USS McKee

In May 2018, Marcom successfully completed preservation of the Freeboard of the ex-USS McKee in Drydock #8 at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

A total of 60,000 square feet was blasted using a combination of ultra-high pressure (UHP) water-jetting lances and robotic crawlers. The vessel was coated with an epoxy primer system and a polysiloxane topcoat. Work was completed safely, ahead of schedule, and under budget.

USCGC Kennebec

In May 2018, Marcom successfully completed preservation of the Buoy Deck of the USCGC Kennebec at the Coast Guard base in Portsmouth, VA.

The deck was contained with an environmental enclosure, abrasive blasted to bare metal, and coated with an inorganic zinc coating.  This project was a trial by the Coast Guard to test the feasibility of performing exterior abrasive blasting to pier-side vessels without blast media contamination occurring in the river.  The effort was SUCCESSFUL.
